Wi
gungn tosam to Feld, min Hans,
Wi gungn tosam to Rau,
Wi seten achtern Disch tosam,
So warn wi old un grau. |
Together we went to the field, dear John,
Together we ended each day,
Together we sat at the table and ate,
And so we grew old and gray. |
Bargop
so licht, bargaf so trag,
So menni, menni Jahr –
Un doch, min Hans, noch ebn so
leef,
As do in brune Haar. |
Uphill so easy, downhill so hard,
So many years as a pair—
And still, sweet John, as much in love
As when we had brown hair. |
