Arend Victorie

Hoogeveen, Drenthe, the Netherlands

[Drèents Nedersaksisch]

Hello!

Happy you joined me.

My name is Arend Victorie, and you are very welcome at my Lowlands site. Here you’ll find some of the shortstories and poems that sometimes haunt my mind. That’s why I call them “brain webs.” I was born on August 28, 1952, in a small village in the province Drenthe in the north of the Netherlands. Currently I am one of about 50.000 residents of the Drenthe town Hoogeveen.

My hobby is writing shortstories, poems and theatre plays. The plays deal with old folk legends of Drenthe and are performed during several street festivals every year. Besides that, I am stage manager for two amateur theatre groups in the region. And that’s also why I am interested in old culture and the history of the northern Lowlands. I use my Drenthe language as much as possible, not only in writing but also in speaking. For almost for a year now I have been volunteering in a hospice for terminally ill cancer patients. That kind of work gives me satisfaction and makes me think about life.

I hope it gives you pleasure to read my “brain webs.”
