and snoepen



Uh-oh! No video games, Internet or TV tonight ...

Dutch for “bon appétit” and “to enjoy treats” respectively ...

... and my personal favorite item to snoepen is sambal badjak!

(In Amsterdam I always stay with an old friend of my wife, who is originally Chinese-Indonesian and whose mother was a home economics teacher back in the old country. So Eet smakelik does not usually conjour up images of haring or pankoek or oliebollen, but rather spicy delicacies of the East Indies—though the former are also nice!)
