Vive la différence!

US Americans visiting Australia and other English-speaking countries tend to be amused by traffic signs saying “HUMP”. They immediately associate it for instance with what a male dog does to your leg before you take him to the veterinarian to get “fixed.” Well, that isn’t the whole story. But you probably get the picture without me going into further details.

No, what’s written on the signs isn’t a command but a noun: the equivalent of US American “(Speed) Bump”. But some people’s minds ... I tell ya ...
