(Lentmoond 1994)Is't wohr? Is bald Oostern? Kann't kuum globen. Veel to koold wüür de Lenzmoond. Wokeen man kann, un dat neudige Geld hett, is dorbi no'n Süden, in de Sünn uttoneihn. De Minsch bruukt Sünn! Sünn is Leben!
Ober wokeen weet hüüttodoogs noch worüm Oostern fiert warrt? De Christen jo, ober ok bi jüm is bi de mihrsten doch de Hauptsook, datt de Oostertiet soveel Fierdoog hett. De we nigsten dinkt an Christus sien Operstohn vun de Doden an den drütten Dag no sien Krüützigen. So steiht dat schreben in't Nee'e Testament bi Matthäus 28, Vers 6, un schull's man giern mool nolesen.
Ierste Oostergreuten sünd al ankomen. ,,Frohe Ostern'' is vördrückt. Wi dröft nich klogen. Hebbt to eten, to drinken un een warme Stuuv. De Lodens liggt vull mit Oostereier ut Zucker un Schokerlood in all' de Farben, de een Regenbogen man hebben kann. Grote un lütte Oosterhosen roopt: ,,Nehm mi mit!'' Wi leevt hier in Freden, ohn' Krieg, un dat is nich mit Geld to betohlen. Liekers mookt Gewalt sik op uns Stroten breet. Dat brennt an all' de Ecken un Kanten op unse Ier.
Doch nu weg mit all' de beusen Gedanken. In unsen Goorn mutt Klüür ween to Oostern'', wüür ik dorbi mien Mann to öbertügen. Allns wat ik köfft hebb, hett he no uns Auto dr ogen. Ik sitt un kiek to. Dat piert mi bannig! Lett sik ober n ich ännern. Mien Dank is em ober wiss.
Oostern is een christlichet Fest! Uns Dichterfürst J.W. von Goethe seggt dat ok so scheun in den Oosterspaziergang.
,,Kehre dich um von diesen Höhen
nach der Stadt zurückzusehen!
Aus dem hohlen, finstern Tor
dringt ein buntes Gewimmel hervor.
Jeder sonnt sich heut so gern.
Sie feiern die Auferstehung des Herrn;
denn sie sind selber auferstanden:
aus niedriger Häuser dumpfen Gemächern.''
usw.Jo, dorüm fiert wi Oostern. Christus is an't Krüüz nogelt worrn un den drütten Dag dornoh vun de Doden operstohn. Uns Minschen is dormit dat ewige Leben geben worrn.
Nu wünsch ik all' mien Lesers vergneugte, sünnige un segent Oosterdoog.
English translation by R. F. Hahn: Easter
by Clara Kramer-Freudenthal
(March 1994)Can it be true? Easter is around the corner? Hard to believe. March was way too cold. Finally, last Thursday the crocuses came into bloom when the sun warmed them. The forsythias, too, wanted to show that their yellow can be bright. Just the daffodils are peeping out of the ground with their tips. Whoever is able and can afford it escapes to the south, to the sun. People need sun! Sun is life!
But who nowadays remembers why we celebrate Easter? Christians do, but even many of them think the main thing is that Easter comes with a good number of legal holidays. It starts off with Good Friday, then Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. Few of them remember Christ's resurrection from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. That is how it is written in the New Testament in Matthew 28, verse 6. Look it up sometime!
Easter greetings have begun to arrive. "Happy Easter" says the print. We have no reason to complain. We have food, drink and a warm room. Shops are laden with easter eggs made from sugar in all the colors of a rainbow. Big and small easter bunnies call, "Take me with you!" They display it all on low shelves to draw children's attention to it. Many a mother needs to economize and cannot buy all the things the eyes of the little tykes catch sight of. Here we are living in peace, without war, and that is something money cannot buy. Yet violence spreads in the streets. Here and there and everywhere in the world fires are burning.
But let us get away from these sombre thoughts. - I had a stroll through our farmers' market. A pleasure for eye and soul. All that greening and blooming! I am beginning to feel sorry for my husband. "Heinz, look! Now, look there! Oh, boy! Aren't those beautiful primroses?! Let's get twenty of them! There, those 'Swiss Giants' [a type of pansy?]! Did you notice them? They are like real little mouths. Yes, we need fifty of those. Will that do? We're getting our springtime from the hothouses. We've got to have some color for Easter," I was busy convincing my husband. "All right, all right! I do agree with you. The eye needs to enjoy some color on Easter. We've always delighted in the awakening of Nature," my kind and patient husband answered. He carried to the car everything I had bought.
But now the chickens came home to roost. We have been living in Harksheide since 1951, and ever since that time we had done the planting and sowing together. My back just won't cooperate anymore, and my husband must do it all by himself. I sit and watch. It bothers me a great deal! It cannot be helped. But he is assured of my gratitude.
Easter is a Christian holiday! Our poet laureat J.W. von Goethe puts it so beautifully in his "Easter Walk":
"Turn around from these heights
To cast your gaze back to the town!
From the hollow, dusky gate
A motley multitude comes pouring forth.
All take in the sun with glee this day,
Celebrate the resurrection of the Lord,
For resurrected have they been themselves
From prostrate houses' dull abodes"
etc.Yes, that is why we celebrate Easter. Christ had been nailed to the cross and rose from the dead on the third day. We humans have thus been given eternal life.
And now I wish all my readers happy, sunny and blessed Easter days.
